Park Fire – July 29 UpdateWork to fully suppress the Park fire, located near Mountain Home State Demonstration Forest is going well. Containment has increased to 40%. Yesterday crews continued with heavy mop-up to secure the control lines and begin mopping up hot spots on the interior. Snags along with heavy dead and downed material continue to pose increased risk to firefighters. Firefighter and public safety continue to be priority. Monsoonal moisture will provide the Sierra Nevada with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms through this weekend. Minor variations in afternoon high temperatures are expected for the next seven days. Some gusty, erratic winds are possible in thunderstorm downdrafts, but the overall pattern will favor light, terrain-driven winds. Thank you to Cal Fire for the great partnership during this Firefight. As of 8 am yesterday morning, USDA Forest Service took command of the incident with 180 personnel currently assigned. The cause of the fire was undetermined….
