Black Mountain (Wildfire)

The lightning-caused Black Mountain fire was reported to the Dillon Interagency Dispatch Center on July 17, 2021. The fire is located 13 miles south of Jackson, MT and east of Skinner Lake and Skinner Meadows. The fire is located on both the Dillon and Wisdom Ranger Districts. Evacuations occurred for the Reservoir campground, the Bloody Dick Cabin, North and South Van Houten campgrounds and the Selway area.On Sunday, July 18, the Central Montana Type 3 Incident Management Team assumed command of the fire. Area and trail closures were implemented on July 19 for public health and safety. Fire managers on the Black Mountain fire are using full suppression where possible and confine and contain strategies to protect primary residences while reducing the risk to wildland firefighters. Efforts are being done to keep the fire on USFS protected lands to the greatest extent possible.
