Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes discovered the Crooks Fire the evening of July 23, in the South Fork Jocko Primitive Area, 8 miles SE of Arlee, MT. As of August 2, 2021, the size was approximately 1,000 acres, burning in steep rough terrain with limited access. St. Mary’s to the North Fork is closed. The main Jocko Road (1000 Rd) is closed at the 3000 Rd junction. No structures are threatened, and no evacuation orders are in effect. at this time. The fire was caused by lightening. A local Type 3 organization is managing the blaze. A community meeting will take place Monday, August 2, at 4:00pm in Arlee, MT at the tribal fitness center gymnasium.
