Built in 1936, Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel & Cabins offers travelers a chance to see elk grazing on the grass around the grounds, as well as the travertine terraces of Mammoth Hot Springs. This elegant hotel sits at the North Entrance to the park accessed via Gardiner, Mont. It is located alongside the impressive stone buildings which were once Fort Yellowstone.

This classic hotel finished a two-year renovation the summer of 2019. The hotel’s guest rooms and public spaces have been beautifully updated, the ski shop has expanded and administrative offices have been shuffled.

Renovations also included transforming the Map Room to more of a really functional lounge area with new furniture while staying true to the building’s 1920-era style. A small bar was built in the room to serve coffee and alcoholic beverages. The large wooden wall map designed by architect Robert Reamer in the 1930s, which was sent to the National Park Service Conservation Laboratory in Arizona to be restored, is back in place and looking better than ever.

The hotel’s light-filled Terrace Grill with its oversized windows and cabins that range in amenities haven’t changed. Stay in a Frontier Cabin with two queen beds and a shower, sink and toilet, a hot tub cabin that features an outdoor hot tub that accommodates six people, a cabin without a bath, or a two-room cabin without a bath.
