6 Big Adventures at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort

Right next to Grand Teton National Park, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort offers a ton of fun. Here are six epic experiences you’ll never forget.

1. Assisted Climbing on the Via Ferrata

Beginners and families are welcome on the Via FerrataJackson Hole Mountain Resort

If scaling up a 500-foot mountain face sounds like an activity only reserved for characters in a Jon Krakauer book, think again. Now in its third summer of operation, the Via Ferrata (meaning “iron road” in Italian) at the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort enables you to have a fun, secured mountain experience.

Unlike the world-renowned expert climbing routes in the Tetons, the Via Ferrata makes mountain climbing accessible for families, groups and individuals looking for adventure. Accompanied by a guide, you’ll secure yourself with cables and move across a mountain face by way of metal ladders, steel rungs, cable bridges and ledges.

But you’ll start with a practice route to get you ready for the rest of the Via Ferrata. Then choose between a full-day climb (five hours) with lunch included or a partial-day climb (one-and-a-half to three hours) that enables you to sample some of the routes without lunch. No matter which climb you choose, you’ll be rewarded by outstanding views into the national forest next to Grand Teton.

2. Trams, Gondolas and Corbet’s Cabin

Ride the Bridger Gondola

Ready for views without having to hike to see them? Take the Bridger Gondola up the mountain. At the top, visit Off Piste Market for an espresso and mouth-watering waffles. A favorite is the Traditional with brown sugar, butter and a side of bacon.

Jackson Hole Aerial Tram

Note: The Jackson Hole Aerial Tram did not operate the summer of 2021. Watch for information about summer of 2022.

All members of the family will love the famous, 100-passenger Jackson Hole Aerial Tram, which goes from Teton Village at 6,311 feet to the summit of Rendezvous Mountain at 10,450 feet.

This unforgettable journey whisks visitors an amazing 4,139 vertical feet for unbeatable views of the Tetons and surrounding Grand Teton National Park below. Passengers soar over diverse forests and often catch a glimpse of local wildlife, including bears, moose, eagles, mule deer, and more. The summit provides various trails that allow hikers to explore Rendezvous Mountain and join the 39-mile Teton Crest Trail that leads into Grand Teton National Park.

The tram is a year round outpost with incredible skiing and snowboarding in the winter.

In the summer, try out the Marion Lake trail, a 12.5 mile round-trip hike that starts with a tram ride to Rendezvous Mountain, hiking higher into the mountains from there. Hikers and visitors can also enjoy mouthwatering waffles with Nutella, sugar and/or bacon at “Corbet’s Cabin” at the top of the aerial tram, 10,450ft in elevation. NOTE: Corbet’s Cabin was closed during summer of 2021. Watch for information about 2022. If you’re looking for great waffles, head to Off Piste Market at the top of Bridge Gondola.

For those looking for more of an adrenaline rush, tandem paragliding flights launch from the tram summit and give riders sweeping valley views, as well as the largest vertical drop in America.

The base for the tram in Teton Village is the gateway to the adventure park, and offers fun family activities, world-class restaurants, and hotels.

3. Grand Adventure Park

This is paradise on Earth for kids and for every adult who has continued to cultivate their inner child. Your Grand Adventure Pass enables you to access the bungee trampoline, the 25-foot-high Aerial Adventure Course known as “The Ropes,” the gondola, tram and 25-foot rock climbing wall.

Kids ages 5-7 must be accompanied by a paying adult on the ropes course.

4. Downhill Mountain Bike Park

Feel the rush of biking downhill on fun mountain trails without having to sweat uphill. The five-minute Teewinot lift will bring you and your bike to the top.

Tip: Rent your bike at JH Sports or Teton Village Sports in Teton Village. And if it’s your first time mountain biking, set yourself up for success by taking a one-hour introduction course.

5. Hike the Wildflower Trail to Bridger Gondola

Get amazing views, pass fields of wildflowers and take breaks on benches tucked in the shade on this must-do hike to the top of Bridger Gondola.

Tip: It’s always free to ride down the gondola or tram, so hike away, knowing you don’t have to hike down.

6. Paragliding

You’ll see incredible scenery as you paraglide over the Jackson Hole area, flying with a tandem professional pilot from Jackson Hole Paragliding.

Tip: No previous experience is necessary, but you must weigh between 40 and 220 pounds and be physically fit enough to run. It is recommended you book in advance.
