Local authorities in Eastland County requested assistance from Texas A&M Forest Service on the Wheat Field Fire at approximately 6:00 pm on March 17th, 2022. Initial crews on scene immediately requested for more resources, including an incident commander with more complex qualifications. Forward progression has not been stopped. It is actively burning in thick brush and coastal grass fields. Heavy equipment and a Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS) strike team are currently on scene. Highs today were expected to reach the mid-80’s, minimum relative humidity between 12 and 15 percent with strong and gusty winds from the southwest. A wind shift is expected this evening, remaining strong and gusty. There is no precipitation forecast.
