Forty-five firefighters from the Gila National Forest responded to the East fire when it was reported on April 22 at 4:07 p.m. local time. It is located south of Hicks Cemetery near the town of Mimbres and Hwy 35. It initially started on private land but has moved quickly across and into the jurisdictional forest boundary. The fire is 100 acres and 0% contained, but is spreading quickly due to very high winds and extremely low humidity.  There are 4 structures threatened but no evacuations have been ordered.
