Incident Overview: The following include 14 prescribed burn projects across the Coconino National Forest. Please see the Maps tab to view where each of the projects are located. PLANNED PROJECTS (in alphabetical order):ArboretumDate: TBDDuration: One day.Location: 4 miles southwest of Flagstaff near the Arboretum.Size: 480 acres total (comprised of one section/block)Type of burn: Broadcast, maintenance. Maintenance burns usually mean wildfire has recently been through the area, which tends to mean less smoke since forest fuels will not be as thick or built up over time. Broadcast burning means firefighterSmoke impacts: Smoke will be visible from the City of Flagstaff and all surrounding areas. Smoke is expected to travel in an east or northeast direction during ignitions and may impact the City of Flagstaff, settling low-lying areas near the burn overnight.Why: This prescribed fire will reduce fuel loading southwest of Flagstaff, thus lessening the risk of catastrophic unplanned wildfire during times of critical fire weather.
