Incident Overview: The Lone Rock Fire began July 13, and is currently being managed under a full suppression strategy. Local ranchers and landowners along with local Rural Fire Protection Districts intially responded to the wildfire protecting structures and private property. Multiple Incident Management Teams have been working to contain the fire, protecting structures and values at risk. Northwest Team 2 is currently managing the fire after assuming command of the fire from the Southern Area Gray team on Wednesday, July 17 at 6:00 AM. Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Red Team under Incident Commander Ian Yocum provided critical structure protection work day and night. Oregon Department of Forestry personnel are also working to protect state lands.Firefighters continue to work on building containment lines and protecting threatened communities as this wildfire has spread across Gilliam, Wheeler, Morrow and Grant counties. Hot, dry and windy weather initially hampered firefighter’s ability to contain and control this wildfire as it grew to more than 130,000 acres. Many structures were saved during this wildfire, though unfortunately some were lost.A community meeting was held Saturday July 27, 2024 in Fossil, Oregon.
