Incident Overview: The Lower Granite Fire started about 12:15pm on July 29th, 2024. The fire is roughly 2,000 acres in size. The fire was wind driven eastward, burning through farmland, rangland and into small timber patches in riparian areas and around houses. Ground wildland firefighting crews from Garfield Fire District 1 and surrounding personnel worked with aerial resources, such as super scoopers, retardant drops and helichopters. Garfield County Fire District 1 and surrounding personnel patrolled the fire overnight, located hotspots on existing lines and conducting structure protection. Additional strike teams and wildland firefighting crews, made available through State Mobilization declaration, are arriving today to relieve crews from Garfield Fire District 1 and engage the fire.
