Incident Overview: The North Willamette Complex is comprised of three fires. The Ore Fire, the Pyramid Fire, and the Slate Fire. Crews and heavy equipment will continue to strengthen these lines by removing trees, snags and other fuels. Firefighters will continue securing, monitoring, and patrolling these lines as warm and dry conditions continue over the next few days. Pyramid Fire (1,331 acres, 31% contained) Division B/E: With dry conditions and increased fire behavior yesterday, crews focused on patrolling and securing the fire perimeter, managing two spot fires. Today, firefighters have installed and are operating sprinkler systems and will continue to patrol and secure the fire’s edge to ensure control lines hold.Division Y: Firefighters continued to focus on constructing direct and indirect control line yesterday and conducted some strategic firing operations and hose lays. Some resources were reassigned to support firefighting efforts on the nearby Ore Fire. Today, crews will focus on patrolling and securing the fire perimeter. Slate Fire (91acres, 99% contained) – 65 people assigned.Crews began suppression repair of the Slate Fire yesterday and will continue patrolling and securing the fire perimeter where needed.SMOKE: Today, the eastern section of the outlook area will see increased smoke impacts from both Willamette Fires and those to the south. UNHEALTHY conditions are expected at Oakridge, Sisters and La Pine due to proximity to fires and their locations in more confined river valleys. Unsafe for Sensitive Groups is expected in Bend, Redmond and McKenzie, with Madras experiencing MODERATE air quality. The north/northwestern areas will continue to see mostly GOOD air quality with haze visible towards the eastern sky. Some smoke may settle in overnight in all areas. Smoke from fires to the south will continue to impact the forecast area.EVACUATIONS: On July 17th, the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with the Willamette National Forest, issued a Level 3: Go Now Evacuation Alert for an area surrounding the Pyramid Fire. Please refer to the Linn County Fire Map for full details of the issued evacuation area (which will appear in red).ROADS: When traveling in the area, please be mindful of firefighters and their vehicles working near roads. Please visit the Oregon Department of Transportation website for current road conditions.AREA CLOSURES: Area, road, recreation sites, and trail (including the PCT) closures are in effect in the Willamette National Forest due to nearby fires. Please see Pyramid Fire Area Closure Forest Order FIRE RESTRICTIONS ARE IN EFFECT: Due to hot and dry conditions, all campfires, charcoal fires, pellet fires, or any other open fires are prohibited, including in developed campgrounds and wilderness areas. Pressurized liquid or gas stoves, lanterns, and heaters that can be switched on and off are allowed. When drones interfere with firefighting efforts, a wildfire has the potential to grow larger and cause more damage.
