Incident Overview: Forest Service Firefighters along with firefighters from other agencies including the City of Highland and San Bernardino County responded to a reported wildland fire on Baseline Road at about 6:00 PM on September 5, 2024. Arriving engines reported several acres on fire, and immediately requested more resources, including multiple additional fixed wing and helicopters. Multiple night flying helicopters were utilized last night as well.Evacuations: An evacuation warning was issued overnight for the East Highland area including the neighborhoods East of Church St, North of Highland Ave; and for the neighborhood East of Weaver and North of Greenspot to the Iron Bridge.Weather: High pressure aloft remains across southern California with
another very hot day expected. Temperatures near the coastal
foothills are still in the 80s and lower 90s, most areas will have high temperatures near to
slightly warmer than those on Thursday with the hottest inland
valleys nearing 115. Widespread extreme HeatRisk will continue for
the valleys and inland Orange County through the weekend with a
greater reduction in HeatRisk for Monday into Tuesday.
