Incident Overview: The Summit Lake Fire was discovered by aircraft on the evening of October 18, 2024. It is located in a remote area of the McCormick Wilderness. At the time of discovery, it was observed to be 5 acres, creeping and backing through the forest understory. The fire area has received light rain. There are no closures at this time. Current actions: fire crews hiked into the area today to assess and develop strategies and tactics for managing the fire. Once crews arrived on scene they estimated the size at roughly 100 acres. Crews will continue to be committed to this incident. There are no structures threatened. Aircraft will be monitoring the fire and assisting crews on the ground as needed. Fire activity: creeping and smoldering. The Summit Lake Fire is burning in a remote forested area consisting of both hardwoods and conifers. Smoke may be visible in very localized areas.
