Incident Overview: On March 4th, a wildfire began north of Sinton, TX and was responded to by local fire departments. Texas A&M Forest Service was requested to provide assistance with heavy equipment and additional firefighters at 4:00 pm and quickly arrived at the fire to assist. Texas A&M Forest Service is currently working in unified command with local fire departments working to protect members of the public, their homes, and at threat due to the fire. Currently fire departments from across San Patricio county and other counties in the region are assisting with this fire to contain and protect the public from this growing fire.This fire started during a period of extremely high fire danger with very high winds, causing the fire to grow rapidly towards the town of Sinton. These high winds are forecast to continue into the evening and firefighters will continue to work to slow spread and protect structures in the path of the fire. Welder Elementary school was evacuated during the beginning hours of the wildfire and residents were moved to the Sinton Community Center. Firefighters are continuing to work to suprress this fire and will continue to be in the evacuated areas to protect homes and infrastructure within the burned area and threatened by the ongoing wildfire.
