Opt for Adventure at Togwotee Mountain Lodge Between Grand Teton and Yellowstone

Blog

Tucked into the Bridger-Teton National Forest, Togwotee Mountain Lodge is a fantastic gateway to adventure, whether on the trails from the lodge’s front door or in the nearby national parks. It’s a quick, 20-minute drive to Grand Teton and an hour to Yellowstone’s South Entrance from here. Relish a hot cup of coffee from your cabin’s front porch while taking in the sunrise over the Tetons, spend the day paddling on Jackson Lake, watching geysers erupt in Yellowstone or snowmobiling some of the best trails in Wyoming, and then return to the lodge where a hearty dinner awaits.

It’s hard to pick which season is better to visit Togwotee Mountain Lodge. Pronounced “toh-guh-tee,” this property is a lovely summer basecamp during its warm weather season, late May through September, with easy access to the parks and opportunities for rafting and horseback riding.

In winter, this region gets a ton of snow. The lodge’s location along the Continental Divide makes it a premier snowmobiling destination. The winter season runs from mid-December to late March. Togwotee is a classic mountain lodge, with Western, pine furnishings and a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Choose from lodge rooms that sleep up to four guests, or cozy cabins that can accommodate families. These include two queen beds, a sleeper sofa and a small kitchenette complete with a stove, mini fridge, microwave, plus cooking and serving ware. Each cabin includes a bathroom, along with a living room and porch with a picnic table perfect for relaxing. Togwotee is pet friendly, so your furry friend can join your vacation, especially if you’re recreating in the national forests where dogs are allowed on the trails.

Situated between Moran and Dubois on quiet Highway 287, Togwotee isn’t the place to stay if you want a night out on the town (though Jackson is only 45 minutes away). It’s the ideal spot to immerse yourself in beautiful nature and the spirit of adventure this part of Wyoming exemplifies. There’s endless opportunities to experience the great outdoors, but the lodge’s sister tour companies offer some favorite activities. Book a whitewater excursion or scenic float with Mad River Boat Trips to see firsthand the beauty of Snake River Canyon.

Or, explore the area’s motorized trails with Scenic Safaris. In the summer you can rent or take a side by side tour to destinations like Curtis Canyon or Shadow Mountain. In the winter, join a guided snowmobile into Yellowstone. It’s the only way to get into the South Entrance when the snow falls other than a snow coach–think a shuttle van on tracks or monster truck tires. Scenic Safaris offer those too, bringing you into the heart of the park to see Old Faithful erupt in the cold, morning air. The lodge can also help you arrange horseback riding or dog sledding, depending on the season, right from the front door.

Come back to the cozy lodge after a wonder-filled day and unwind at the Red Fox Saloon on site. Serving local Snake River Brewing beers, you can play a game of pool and grab snacks like cheese curds or soft pretzels. Head next door to the Grizzly Grill and sit down to a hearty dinner. Open for three meals a day, order favorites like beer chili, bison burgers, pan-seared salmon and flatbreads. The grill strives to serve local, seasonal and organic items whenever possible.

Road tripping? You’ll find everything you need here to refresh and reset from laundry facilities to a big parking lot you can leave your RV in while you take advantage of lodge rooms and cabins with hot showers and comfy beds. There’s dry saunas to warm up after a cold day of snowmobiling, and a small grocery store and gas station to make sure you’re ready for the next leg of your journey.
