Incident Overview: The Stronghold Fire started at approximately 11:30 am on Monday, April 28. The wind-driven fire is burning through desert vegetation, including thick grass and brush. It is 750 acres with a moderate rate of spread, and moving to the northeast. Two Large Air Tankers, two Single Engine Air Tankers, four Arizona Forestry hand crews, the Globe hotshots, along with state, federal, and local engines are engaged and working toward full suppression. Resources are working point protection around homes and trying to tie in the fire along local roadways. At this time, Ironwood Road on the north side and Cochise Road on east side are currently holding fire. Aviation is working south side of the fire. However, winds are continue to shift directions making suppression efforts challenging. The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office has placed multiple homes in the Sunsites Pearce-area in GO and SET. Per CCSO: GO for homes west of Cochise Stronghold and south of Ironwood Roads in Sunsites. If residents need assistance with evacuating large animals, they can call SEACOM and CCSO Ranch Patrol will assist.
