Being thirsty is a feeling which only water can suffice! But what if you have gone on adventurous trekking and running short of water? Or imagine you are walking down the deserts where there is no trace of water. You can even die of dehydration! This is because water is an essential component of our human body. It constitutes 73% of our body and aids in the proper functioning of the organs.
A deficiency of water can not only cause dehydration but can lead to several health ailments. Water helps in keeping us hydrated, enhances muscle strength, circulates nutrients, and increases the health of our kidneys and heart. Moreover, it even functions to regulate the body temperature.
The energy that our body gains from the food we consume is because of the nutrients that water carries through the tissues. Thus, water is a necessity of every living organism and a scarcity of it can be detrimental. But if you are running short of water, there are certain things you can do to satiate your thirst.
1. Have fruits containing a high amount of water
Studies reveal that fruits such as watermelon and strawberry contain 92% of water, which is enough to quench your thirst. Besides, you can consume fruits such as pineapple, raspberries, oranges, cranberries, grapefruits, peach, plums, blueberries, cherries, banana, grapes, apple, apricot, and pears. Even these fruits contain high amount of water to reduce your thirst.
Soda water if consumed in excess can be harmful to your health, but if you are running short of water, you can drink some amount of it. Besides, soda water also aids in the process of digestion if you have a bloated stomach. Have fresh-lime soda to make the drink tasty.
Having tea or coffee can be one of the substitutes of water. Although an individual must keep a check on his/her caffeine intake, given that there is a scarcity of water, this drink can go well.
4. Have plenty of vegetables
Vegetables such as lettuce and cucumber have the highest amount of water content, i.e., 96%. In this list, we also have radish, zucchini, and celery that comprises of 95% of water. Besides, there are other water-enriched veggies like tomato, green cabbage, eggplant, pepper, red cabbage, cauliflower, spinach, carrot, broccoli, green peas, and potato. So if you consume these fresh veggies, your thirst can get satiated.
Milk is one of the healthiest substitutes for water. It is enriched with vital nutrients and calcium, which aids in strengthening bone health and body immune system. Having a glass of milk will not only reduce your thirst but as well make you stronger.
6. Sports drink/ juice
Fresh juice of an orange, Aloe-Vera, watermelon, mango, beetroot, carrot, etc. will not only add essential nutrients to your body but will keep you hydrated as well. You can even have sports drink which will further provide your body with adequate amount of energy, besides reducing thirst.
